Everyone’s in need of some warm fuzzies these days, right? I
hope you aren’t cutting up some onions for your lasagna, cause things might be
getting misty for you.
1) The Portland Timbers hosted and played against a kid’s
soccer team as part of a Make a Wish request. I’ll just leave a link to the

I love how involved the Timbers and their raucous fan base

2) As you can probably imagine, I don’t particularly like
the Dodgers. But here’s a video of Matt Kemp, a star player, going out of his
way to reach out to a fan:

I’m against the hero worship in sports, but I guess this
nuances my view a bit more. I’m sure athletes are self-aware (or should be
self-aware enough) to recognize how any small action can bring brightness to a
kids life. This is basically perfect.
3) Some self-created warm fuzzies from last night. I play on
a City League B-team (as well as an A-team) and captained this past Spring. We
had won one game in the three club seasons leading up to this Spring, and we
picked up a couple of solid players, resulting in a run in the regular season
leading up to a match for first place yesterday against the undefeated regular
season champion. Our most improved player (Angela), someone who hadn’t played
ultimate before joining our team when it was created, caught a universe point
to win the season. Her sister (Rosa), who also is leaving for the Peace Corps
in Kenya this Friday, was the one who encouraged Angela to start playing
ultimate with her, and was one of the first to mob her after making her
incredible catch to win the game. Just purely epic.
