Music outside of the classic oldies was never really
emphasized in my household. I can talk at length about classic bands such as
the Beatles, the Beach Boys, CCR, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, etc.
So “discovering” new music for me has typically been
dependent on other people “in the know” or looking backwards at classic music
that I had not been exposed to and streaming albums and such.
With this in mind, here are songs that I have really enjoyed
over the past month or so. For those that know music much better than I do, I’m
sure these will come across as a resounding “duh…”
1)
Tighten Up – Archie Bell and the Drells
2)
Move On Up – Curtis Mayfield
3)
Yet Again – Grizzly Bear
4)
Two Weeks – Grizzly Bear
5)
Rio – Hey Marseilles
6)
I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man –
Prince
7)
This Charming Man – The Smiths
8)
Golden Lady – Stevie Wonder
9)
Alter Ego – Tame Impala
10) Say
That – Toro Y Moi
11) Is
That Enough – Yo La Tengo
Edit: P.S. Also, "Encore" by Jay-Z. Produced by Kanye before College Dropout.
